Can't sleep at the moment so may as well do some more programming, now the preset loader seems to work okay I'm making it so sounds ...
Just downgraded to Glade v3.6.7 and it's much faster, so must be a fairly recent bug, hopefully I can use this till it's fixed, Gazpacho also seems promising.
