Triceratops LV2 - v0.1.7 out in the wild :o>

Just updated triceratops LV2 to V0.1.7 - clipping detection should be more robust

  1. Hello Nick,
I got an error installing this new version. The error was: In file included from ../triceratops.cpp:9:0:
../uris.h:6:47: fatal error: lv2/lv2plug.in/ns/ext/state/state.h: No such file or directory
    compilation terminated.

    Is something missing?

    Thanks in advance,
    brian

  2. I can't reproduce that here, which distro, and version of LV2 are you using?

  3. Hello Nick,
    sorry for the delay.
I've got Triceratops running fine on KXStudio (in Carla) and using Jalv.gtk. Jack occasionally has difficulty processing some of the more complex patches (like Analog Single Strings) on my older PC, but newer ones seem to work fine.

I've tried using the "save preset" selector provided when I use jalv.gtk, but there is no way to open the patches after saving them.

---If I select to save a patch using the first dropdown menu (file) it creates a directory rather than a patchfile.

---If I use the other save preset button (the one where all the presets drop down in a list) I get "permission denied."

I also got several error messages when opening Triceratops in jalv.gtk like this:
Error opening file /usr/lib/lv2/cabbage_Effects-todo-withparams-MultiReverb.lv2/manifest.ttl (No such file or directory)

I've started the webpage for Triceratops here: http://www.amsynth.com/triceratops.html

Let me know if I should add anything in particular.

  4. Glad to know you have it working now, I want to do a better preset panel soon that was a bit of a rush job, I'd like categories etc. the presets that gobble more CPU are the ones that use sync and fm I'll see if I can get that down a little bit, I no longer have a working older machine to test things on so feedback from other users is useful.

  5. Thanks for the nice words about amsynth. Let me know if there are any details in specific you'd like added, etc.
I'm testing Triceratops on newer PCs, too, and I like the quality of the sounds it produces: very rich, warm, powerful. The only problem is how to get patches saved correctly and be able to reload them (or insert them into the presets folder). Maybe the easiest thing to do is to change the permissions of the preset folder. But I think it would be better to not need to do that, especially for new users..

  6. Hi Nick,
I'm testing Triceratops on AntiX (debian) and it's working nicely. I just needed to install the lv2core package.

Question: when I make a preset and save it, it automatically gets an ".lv2" extension. Should I change this to ".ttl"? And should I copy it to the presets folder so that it loads with the others? (I don't see any other way to call it up again.)

    Thanks.. :)

  7. it should appear on the synth's own preset list in the GUI once it's saved, maybe it's looking in the wrong place, yes you can see how copying/renaming it works until I figure out what's going on, I really need to do tests on other distros, actually I'm interested how Debian is coming along been a while since I tried it so I'll grab that, and Kxstudio

  8. Well, I'm now officially on vacation, which means full-time testing of Triceratops. :D I love how rich the sounds are on this synth! And there are so many routing possibilities, it reall makes it a powerful instrument.

I still am not able to see the sounds in the GUI after I save them. They don't appear in the list (neither sidebar nor dropdown menu).

I complied Triceratops in my home folder. I don't know if it's the best place to compile in though..

I'll update if I can get the new patches working, hopefully today..

  9. I'm also trying to install Minaton, but I got this error:

    make
    lv2peg minaton.ttl minaton.peg
    g++ -shared -Xlinker -zmuldefs -fPIC -DPIC -ljack -lsndfile -lsamplerate minaton.cpp synth.cpp `pkg-config --cflags --libs lv2-plugin` -o minaton.so
    In file included from minaton.cpp:2:0:
synth.hpp:5:24: fatal error: samplerate.h: No such file or directory
    compilation terminated.
    In file included from synth.cpp:8:0:
synth.hpp:5:24: fatal error: samplerate.h: No such file or directory
    compilation terminated.
    make: *** [minaton.so] Error 1

    --Any suggestions?

  10. I've meant to get back to Minaton for ages I did a fair bit of work on it at the beginning of the year, but I really want to remove that libsamplerate dependency and get CPU usage down, the version on Sourceforge is very out of date and is more similar to Triceratops (except it's a wavetable synth, but no sliding between waveform shapes was included at that point).
